We cycled this route in 2005, at around the same time of year. There are some very beautiful river bends just after the Germany/Austria border but you probably got there anyway. The towns Melk and Krems are worth a stop, if only for Apfelstrudel and one of the many versions of Austrian coffee. If you indeed want to not just concentrate on the pretty aesthetics, there is the Mauthausen Memorial (https://www.mauthausen-memorial.org/en) shortly after Linz, to remind us what could be in store. Hope you have the wind in your back, we didn't and on a day with extreme headwinds, took the boat for a stretch, very scenic, can recommend.

Well done so far brave velopedists. One question : any local foods as you trundle on? Do not miss the cakes in Vienna, they are legendary.
